Where Children Sleep Response

“Where Children Sleep” by James Mollison is a book about where the children of the world sleep. Some being poor, some being wealthy and some just having enough.

When Mrs. Sattler was reading the book I felt really bad for the poor kids because they really didn’t even have a bed to sleep on! I felt like the rich kids were spoiled and nasty. For example, a four-year-old and his family live on a mattress in a field on the outskirts of Rome, Italy. They used to live in a tent on the side of the road but go kicked out of there for invading someone’s private property. So now when it rains they have to hold up umbrellas while they sit on the mattress so they don’t get wet. While this other kid in the book who is seven-years-old is live the life. He lives in a small apartment but has all the toys in the world if that’s not spoiled then I don’t know what is.

My class had to choose an Overarching question and I chose “What is Fairness”. In my opinion I think that fairness is everyone treated equally no matter the gender, race and their wealthyness.

I think the whole book was awesome! It shows that if you are having a bad day then just remember that there’s kids who are having worse days! I think people should read this book. I think for now on when i’m walking around with my family in the city I’ll ask if I can have a dollar and give it to a homeless person.

“Shaquem Griffin with only one hand was the first player to be drafted by an NFL team, being selected to the Seattle Seahawks. The LB had his left hand amputated at 4 yrs old.” – Wikipedia, Shaquem Griffin

How does he play in the NFL?  How does he use perseverance?

Even though he wasn’t invited to the 2018 NFL in the Combine he put up astonishing numbers. According to Wikipedia, “Shaquem, since he was 4 has thrived as a football player without the benefit of his left hand.” Despite playing football with only one hand Shaquem is very strong and is able to bring down 200lb people with only one hand, Shaquem is also fast considering being a LB he had the fastest 40 yard dash time, 4.38 seconds. Lastly, he hoped to bench press 225 LB 11 times, instead he bench pressed 225 LB 20 times and the fact he did it with one hand is phenomenal.

As cited from Wikipedia, “One day a boy who had a missing hand to came to Shaquems house and looked down trying to hide his tears but Shaquem nudged his chin up and told him this. Don’t let anybody tell you what you can and can’t do.”   People should listen to these wise words. Shaquem uses perseverance to play in the NFL if he didn’t have perseverance he probably wouldn’t be where he is now!

My 6th grade progress!

I have dreams.. One being to play in the MLB one day. I would also love to go to The University of Oregon! Also, I really want to go skydiving I think it would be a little bit scary but then really awesome! I’m going to need to work hard to achieve these goals but it’s possible. I don’t need to work as hard for skydiving but you know.😂

Mindset Stances, all these stances are really good to be, empathy, opistim, persistence, resistance and flexibility but you can be too much of some. For example, you can be too optimistic because you will be naive and something could happen that you won’t take seriously.

I think this person in my grade uses the stances really well, Evelyn. I think she uses the stances really well. I also think that the stances are difficult but there all difficult in their own way. There are also advantages and disadvantages to these stances. Empathy disadvantage, if your busy always having empathy for other people you could forget about yourself. Advantage of empathy, empathy can help you make friends. Flexibility disadvantage, it might be hard to go out of your comfort zone for others. Persistence Advantage, persistence can help you overcome situations. Persistence disadvantage, it could get hard to push through situations. Resistance disadvantage, you could miss out on stuff with friends. Resistance advantage, resistance can help you with making mistakes! Lastly, optimism disadvantage- it could make you sad if you mess up on  something. Optimism advantage, optimism can help you stay happy and hopeful. I think that I have empathy and persistence because i’m kind and I’m able to push through stuff.

Who am I as a person.. I think that I am an Athletic, Smartish and a Friendly kid. I also like to read, in 4th grade I read 123 or 124 books! I also like Math! I don’t really like Science or Social Studies. One goal that I have for my 6th grade year is to read at least 75 books. One more goal is that I want to have an A in every subject by the end of the year!
